Upton Supports Critical Military and Humanitarian Funding for Ukraine

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, released the following statement after voting for the most recent round of critical funding to support Ukraine amid the ruthless Russian invasion:

“Tonight, I voted in favor of additional military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Last month, I saw first-hand the devastation Putin’s army had wrought on the country. At the border with Poland, I met with humanitarian organizations and witnessed some of the millions of refugees who’ve been forced to flee their homeland. Ukraine can win, and democracy can prevail, but that requires additional military and humanitarian support. This bill will provide nearly $20 billion in weapons, logistics, supplies, and intelligence to give the Ukrainian armed forces the resources needed to win on the battlefield. The legislation also includes $20 billion to address humanitarian and economic issues like emergency food assistance, robust economic support, and diplomatic support. Finally, this package will help our government track down, seize, and sell assets of Russian oligarchs in the United States. I am proud to report this bill passed with a bipartisan vote of 368-57 and anticipate it will be taken up in the Senate this week and signed by the President shortly thereafter. I will continue to do all I can to bolster our Ukrainian allies in the face of Russia’s brutal assault on their country and global democracy.”
