Upton, DeGette Statement on Efforts to Create ARPA-H

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI) and Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement in response to published reports that language seeking to jumpstart the creation of a new advanced research agency to cure cancer, known as ARPA-H, will not be included in the Senate’s reconciliation bill:

“The news today that language needed to create ARPA-H has been removed from the Senate version of the reconciliation bill makes our Cures 2.0 bill that much more important – and the need to pass it that much more urgent. Creating this new advanced research agency to cure some of the world’s most difficult diseases – such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, ALS and more – has been one of the Biden administration’s top priorities. And it’s why we have been working tirelessly for many months now to craft the language needed, not only to make ARPA-H a reality but, to ensure its success as part of our Cures 2.0 bill – which we plan to introduce in the coming weeks.

“Finding new cures and treatments to save the lives of millions of Americans should be a bipartisan endeavor. Once it’s introduced, we hope our colleagues in both the House and Senate will support our efforts to move Cures 2.0 quickly through both chambers so we can get this important new agency up and running as soon as possible.”
