Upton Statement After Robert Sisson Confirmed to International Joint Commission for United States and Canada
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, today issued a statement after Robert Sisson of Sturgis, Michigan was confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as a Commissioner on the International Joint Commission for United States and Canada. The IJC is a bi-national agency that oversees the management of the waters between the United States and Canada and works to protect them for the benefit of both nations.
“Southwest Michigan and our entire state now have an incredibly strong local voice and advocate in this prominent position. Rob is going to really make a difference for Michigan and our country, and I am proud he will be serving in this critical role,” Upton said. “With his deep admiration for our Great Lakes, experience, and commitment to public service, he will simply be a tremendous asset to the IJC. The friendship between Michigan and Canada is just so important, and the IJC plays a key part in supporting that relationship.”
