U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, today issued the following statement after President-Elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of Elaine Chao for the position of Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary:
“Being from state that made autos great means we care about critical transportation issues – particularly as it relates to self-driving cars and other new technologies. Michigan companies will play key roles in these developments and Elaine Chao will do a great job of guiding the industry into the future. I’ve known Elaine for years as a friend and she has a long history of public service and will be a great fit for this critical position. I have absolute confidence she will do a wonderful job. There will be lots of work to do in the coming months and years as it relates to transportation, technology, and infrastructure issues and I look forward to working with Secretary Chao.”
