Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) was recognized this afternoon by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) with the organization’s Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence.  Upton was presented the award on behalf of southwest Michigan manufacturers.

“We’ve lost one in five manufacturing jobs in America the last few years.  Almost half those jobs lost were in Michigan.  We need to pursue policies that turn things around.  I’m very happy to receive this award which recognizes my continuing commitment to jobs in our economy.  Manufacturers form the backbone of our nation’s economy and are busily leading the way for our economic recovery,” said Upton.  “We need to protect American workers, and oppose policies that ship our jobs overseas.”

Upton has been honored with this prestigious recognition in every Congress since NAM established the award in 1997.
